Ohio Vet Tech
If you are an Ohio resident interested in becoming a vet tech there are many resources that can help you. For example, you will find Ohio vet tech organizations like OAVT which stands for Ohio Association of Veterinary Technicians. This association provides support and education for aspiring and current veterinary technicians. Another organization you should join no matter what state you reside in is NAVTA, or the National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America. This association helps provide continuing education and more for those in this career field.
In Ohio you are required to successfully complete either a two or four year AVMA accredited program. AVMA stands for the American Veterinary Medical Association and provides accreditation for schools all over the country. If you complete a two year program you would be rewarded an Associates degree, while a four year program would get you a Bachelors degree. Then you must pass the state exam which is abbreviated VTNE for Veterinary Technology National Exam. Following completion of your exam you have to register with the Ohio Veterinary Medical Licensing Board before you can work as a vet tech.
The requirements in Ohio and other states for vet techs are quite stringent as well they should be. As a vet tech your duties may include administering injections and medicines, performing tests, assisting with surgery and more. You will be working with pets who are like family to their owners and your heartstrings are sure to be tugged more than once. It is imperative that you know how to do your job to the best of your ability because the health and sometimes even the lives of innocent pets are at stake. However after completing a two or four year program and passing your state exam you'll likely be ready for anything.
Once you become an Ohio vet tech you will enjoy the benefits of such a rewarding career. Not only will you make an attractive salary, you will go home each day knowing you helped animals. Once you are certified you can even continue your education in your spare time while working during the day. You may want to specialize in a certain area or get a more prestigious degree. There are certainly plenty of educational and career options in the field of veterinary medicine.
